Course description

For the last two decades, the effects of biodegradation have become more visible. Industrial waste and gas emission directly cause certain diseases and also contribute to premature death. With this growing awareness, not only have public policies been implemented to reduce the harmful effects of industries, but private initiatives are also being taken by enterprises to reduce their carbon footprint. 

To better understand why businesses should adopt sustainable practices, this module explores sustainable materials, life cycle assessments, and eco-friendly sourcing, helping inform product development decisions. 

What will i learn?

  • Understand the concept and importance of material sustainability
  • Analyze environmental, social, and economic impacts of materials
  • Identify and evaluate sustainable material choices based on key criteria

Requirements

  • No prior knowledge of sustainability or materials science is required.
  • Basic reading and comprehension skills are recommended. Previous experience with online courses can be helpful but is not necessary.

Özge Yurttaş Atsız

She graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Communication. She completed her master's degree at the same university's Institute of Educational Sciences. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a journalist and editor on various websites. She has worked as a communication specialist in different civil society organizations. Between 2015-2017, she coordinated projects with civil society organizations as a program coordinator at Maltepe Municipality. Between 2018-2024, she worked as a project manager in a women's association She took responsibility for the development, implementation and coordination of training programs aimed at strengthening women's entrepreneurship and women's employment. Since June 2024 she is working as a Projectes Manager at KAGİDER . In the last 10 years, Özge has volunteered for youth projects and economic empowerment projects for women. She has experience in project development and implementation at local, national and international levels by working with different international organisations, developing and implementaing of traning programs for womens and youths.
